1,368 Borewells in Puri remain Defunct, claims Congress

Jagannath temple PuriOdisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) chief Prasad Harichandan has held a press meet today and slammed the government over the mismanagement of affairs in Puri ahead of much awaited Nabakalebara Rath Yatra 2015.

The Congress claimed that at least 1,468 borewells in Puri district have become defunct and people are not getting proper drinking water. This unhygienic situation has resulted in jaundice outbreak and at least 350 people have been admitted to the hospitals so far, the party alleged.

In Puri town, 18 doctors’ posts are lying vacant, while the figure is 18 in the district. Many roads and flyovers are unfinished and there are no signs to believe they would be completed before Rath Yatra, which falls on July 18. Out of 135 drains, only 65 have been cleaned. Prasad Harichandan accused the Odisha Government of turning a blind eye to the Nabakalebara infrastructure work and mismanaging the whole process.
