19,997 Schools in Odisha to get LPG Connection for MDM Scheme

Mid Day Meal SchemeBhubaneswar, Nov 16: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections will be provided to as many as 19,997 schools in Odisha in the second phase for Midday Meal Scheme.

In the first phase, 5,260 schools got LPG connection for the MDM scheme and the government has sanctioned Rs. 8.44 core. For the implementation of the second phase of allocating LPG connections to schools, Rs. 9.85 crore have been sanctioned to district education officers.

MDM is one of the core projects of the central government which aimed to check drop out and to provide nutritious food to school students. Odisha government has spent Rs.2969 crore in last four years under MDM Scheme with contribution of more than Rs.2200 crore from the Central government.

The education minister informed that the scheme was being implemented at 62, 642 schools in Odisha covering around 55, 41,283 students.  The Block Education Officers would send the list of schools to the Schools and Mass Education Department over the LPG connection.
