1st in Odisha; Berhampur gets Underground Dustbins

ONI Bureau:  In a first of its kind initiative in Odisha, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has installed as many as 17 smart semi-underground dustbins in the city.

Installed at a cost of around Rs 5 crore, the dustbins of 5 ft length and 5 ft width are made of steel.

BeMC has installed dustbins near Binayak Acharya College, guest house, Durga Devi temple and circuit house in Berhampur reportedly.

The civic body would collect garbage and dump them into these dustbins. The dashboards can see through sensors. The sensor will ping once the dump touch 80 per cent, BeMC Commissioner Chakrabati Singh Rathore informed.

Underground Bin Systems are an efficient way of collecting waste and recycling materials.

As per report, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the first underground dustbins in the town on Saturday.
