2014 Polls: SC issues Notice to Khandapada MLA Anubhav Patnaik

Anubhav-PatnaikThe Supreme Court has issued notices to BJD MLA from Khandapada, Anubhav Patnaik in connection with a petition filed by senior politician Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, who lost by just 601 votes in the 2014 assembly polls. While Anubhav had secured 62,257 votes, Soumya, who was contesting on the Ama Odisha Party (AOP), got 61,656 votes.

Soumya had sought the cancellation of elections in Khandapada by accusing the BJD candidate of adopting corrupt practices and non-compliance of different provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and the Rules.

As the Orissa High Court had dismissed Soumya Ranjan Patnaik’s petition, he moved the Supreme Court. The apex court accepted the plea for hearing and issued notices to the BJD MLA
