3026 Villages in Mayurbhanj District affected by Drought

Drought-OdishaBhubaneswar, Oct 12: As many as 3026 villages under 382 panchayats in Mayurbhanj district have been affected by drought due to scanty rainfall this monsoon. In a report to Odisha government, the district agriculture officer mentioned that 308 panchayats in the district are affected by the drought.

According to officials, the district has been one of the worse affected districts in Odisha. More than fifty percent of crop loss was reported in the district leaving farmers in distress condition. Mayurbhanj had expected good rainfall this year but the withdrawal of monsoon has marred the expectation of the farmers. Out of 26 blocks in the district – Raruaan, Jashipur, Sukruli, Morada, Rairangpur, Tiring and Bahalda blocks have been affected by drought.
