4 Students of Ravenshaw University drown in Mahanadi

Ravenshaw students drownIn a shocking incident, four students of Ravenshaw University today drowned while bathing at Jobra Barrage of the river Mahanadi in Cuttack.

Those diseased have been identified as Pyarimohan Pradhan, Shahnawaz Khan, Debiprasad and Pritiranjan Das. They were the students of Information Science and Telecommunications (IST) and Information Technology Management (ITM) courses in the university.

Vice chancellor of Raveshaw University Prakash Sarangi informed that all bodies have been sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

The tragic incident happened, when five students went to the river bank to take bath at around 3.30 pm. While one student lost his balance in the current of water, others tried to rescue him and got drowned in the process.

Fortunately, one student was rescued by the local fishermen. Fire brigade and ODRAF were called immediately, but unfortunately, four students lost their life in deep water.

Cuttack Collector, DCP, University Vice Chancellor, Registrar, other officials along with hundreds of students were present during the rescue operations.
