5 Hardcore Maoists surrender in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Maoists OdishaIn a major development, a total of five hardcore Maoists, including two women, surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra on Thursday saying the leftist extremists are deviating from their core ideology and exploiting innocent tribal people of the district.

The five Maoists were allegedly involved in over 50 criminal cases including torching of a school building in 2008, violence during Assembly election in a village in Malkangiri district, killing of innocent tribals suspecting them as police informers to name a few, said Malkangiri SP after the naxals surrendered before him .

The surrendered-ultras were identified as Raju Madkami, Laka Kabasi, Bhime Madhi, Soma Padiami and Debe Madkami belong to different villages in Kalimela area in the district, he said.

Raju and Soma were carrying a cash reward of Rs one lakh each on their head by the government of Odisha. However, the surrendered Maoists will be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the State government.
