5,000 Contractual High-School Teachers launch agitation in Odisha

Odisha Contractual Teachers Association protests at DEOsBhubaneswar, Dec 14: Demanding the state government to re-engage dismissed teachers, around 5,000 contractual high school teachers launched state-wide agitation by gheraoring the District Education Offices (DEOs) on Monday.

Notably, the state government had dismissed 4,000 contractual teachers those were given posting after June 2015.

The teachers were protested against the state government on 26 November demanding rollback the decision to dismiss the teachers. But they called off their stir after getting assurance from the state government.

As per reports, the state government had informed the Orissa High Court that it would withdraw all the appointments were made after June 11, 2015 due to allegations of irregularities in the process.

The contractual teachers those were appointed after June 11, 2015 during the academic session of 2014-15 were affected. Despite High Court’s stay order on the appointment of teachers in June, appointments were carried out in the state.
