58 Rajya Sabha Seats to go to Polls on March 23; 3 from Odisha

ONI Bureau:  The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced that voting for 58 Rajya Sabha seats from 16 states will be held on March 23, 2018.

The tenure of 58 members from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan and Telengana will complete their term in April 2018.

As per report, at least 10 members have to be elected from Uttar Pradesh however 3 members from Odisha to be elected for the Upper House. Terms of 3 MPs from Odisha AV Swami, Dilip Tirkey & AU Singh Deo drawing towards conclusion; Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s tenure will also end in April.

While the ECI will issue notification for the polls on March 5, the last date for filling nominations has been fixed for March 12. Likewise, the scrutiny of nominations is March 13 while that for withdrawal is March 15.
