9 arrested for attacking media persons covering child marriage

Commissionerate Police today arrested nine accused in connection with brutal attack on media persons, when they were covering a child marriage issue in Khalarda village in Cuttack district. Arrest include the groom’s father and some others from the bride’s side.

Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora informed to media persons that, the case has been booked under sections 147, 148, 307, 323, 294, 379, 149, 34 of IPC and section 11 of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

When the district Child Welfare Committee officials got the information about the marriage of a minor girl (aged 16+), immediately they rushed to the spot. They also attacked by the crowd.
