BJP President Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Odisha, visited Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri yesterday to pay respect to the deities. He and his wife spent about an hour inside the temple premises. Later, Amit Shah met Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati of Govardhan Peeth.
People present at Govardhan Peeth, were surprised to see the most powerful leader in India after PM Narendra Modi, prostrating before the Shankaracharya or Guruji. BJP Odisha In-charge Arun Singh, state party president KV Singhdeo, Union minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan and senior party leader Suresh Pujari were present during the meeting.
During the hour-long meeting, Puri Shankaracharya asked Amit Shah to make all necessary steps not to neglect Puri under any circumstances. Amit Shah assured him of all support and also briefed him about the measures taken by the Narendra Modi government in the interest of nation. The issue of Nabakalebara preparations came up in the discussion.
