Animals sacrificed at Chhatar Jatra in Kalahandi despite awareness

ONI Bureau:  Despite all efforts launched by the Kalahandi district administration and the police to prevent animal sacrifice, thousands of goats, sheep and hens were sacrificed on the occasion of Chhatar Jatra of Devi Manikeshwari in Odisha’s Bhawanipatna Kalahandi district today.

As per rituals, the ‘Mundabasa’ ritual of goddess Manikeswari is performed at the midnight on Ashtami tithi.

Later, Chhatar’ of the goddess Manikeswari will be taken out to Jena Khala. After special rituals, the Chhatar of Goddess brought from Jenakhala in a procession to the main temple this morning.

Thousands of devotees who had taken a sacred promise to sacrifice the animals on fulfilment of their wishes slaughtered animals on both sides of roads.
