In another big setback for ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Naveen Patnaik’s clean image, Lok Sabha MP from Balasore, Rabindra Kumar Jena, appeared before the CBI in connection with multi-crore Seashore chit fund scam. Earlier, BJD Lok Sabha MP from Mayurbhanj, Ramachandra Hansda was arrested by the CBI. He is still lodged in jail along with sitting MLA Pravat Tripathy.
Rabindra Jena, is a leading industrialist. He was the Co-Chief Executive Officer at Balasore Alloys Ltd. from January 31, 2007 till January 30, 2009, and then as the Managing Director from January 30, 2009 until November 2011.
Jena was grilled by the CBI for around three hours. After moving out of the CBI office, he admitted his business relations with Seashore Group, which still owes him some money. “I have given all information to the CBI”, he claimed.
It was alleged that he was involved in illegal Chromite mining as the Managing Director of Balasore Alloys. RK Jena won the elections from Balasore in 2014, defeating his nearest rival Pratap Sarangi (BJP). Former Union Minister Srikant Jena (Congress) was pushed to third spot.
