Battlefield Odisha: Now It’s turn of Berhampur

ONI Bureau: Just a few months ago, Chhatrapur witnessed the brutal murder of BJD Councilor Laxmidutta Pradhan, who was hacked to death by assailants allegedly linked to BJP in broad daylight.

Only a few days ago, gunshots were fired at BJP activist Manoranjan Meher’s residence in Pada village in Bijepur. And, bombs were hurled at a BJD leader’s vehicle in Polsara village near Niali of Cuttack district.

Now, it’s the turn of Berhampur to see political violence where a senior leader was targeted, but had a narrow escape.

Some unidentified miscreants yesterday opened fire at the vehicle of former Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC), Siba Sankar Das alias Pintu near Nilakantha Nagar Mandir in Gosaninuagaon.

While police have initiated an investigation into the incident, Siba Sankar Das preferred not to lodge any FIR. He refused to talk to the media too.
