Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: The members of Bhumi Adhikar Andolan have staged dharna in front of Raj Bhawan here on Wednesday demanding scrapping of the controversial ‘Odisha Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill-2015. They termed the bill as anti-people and draconian.
During the monsoon session, the bill was passed by the Odisha Assembly. Over this the opposition parties have also walked out during the session. As per the bill, land grabbing is a punishable offence.
The members have alleged the government for passing the bill which would deprive poor, slum-dwellers from their basic and fundamental rights. They submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Odisha over the controversial bill. They urged the Governor not to give his ascent to the bill terming the bill as against interest of the people. They also alleged the state government over farmers death and drought like situation.
