BJD, BJP, Congress unite to defeat Nabin Nanda’s Candidate

ONI Bureau: In a desperate bid to counter the rising popularity and clout of former Dhenkanal MLA Nabin Nanda, the BJD, BJP and Congress got united and defeated his Sarpanch candidate in Letheka panchayat in Gondia block.

Despite the rare unity between ruling party and opposition, Nabin Nanda gave them a run for their money. Finally, his candidate lost by just 4 votes. It’s alleged that the electoral officer favoured the BJD candidate and rejected 36 votes out of which 24 were cast in favour of Nabin Nanda’s candidate Om Prakash Dash.

While BJD-backed candidate received 991 votes, Nabin Nanda’s candidate got 987 votes. The BJP and Congress did not field their candidates and extended support to the BJD candidate even during campaigning.

The entire exercise was reportedly aimed at clipping the wings of Nabin Nanda, who has probably emerged as a big threat to BJD. BJD MLA Saroj Samal led the campaign and managed to get the support of BJP and Congress to outwit Mr. Nanda.
