ONI Bureau: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has condemned the ‘egg attack’ at CM Naveen Patnaik’s meeting at the Talsari Beach Festival in Balasore, saying it violates the spirit of democracy.
BJD’s State General Secretary Bijaya Nayak has hit out at the opposition BJP, saying an official programme should not be treated as a party function.
“As the Chief Minister of the State, Naveen Patnaik inaugurated various public welfare projects and laid foundation stones for some projects. He also inaugurated the Talsari Beach Festival as the CM. It was not a party programme. But, some frustrated elements of the BJP indulged sought to obstruct such events by indulging in petty politics, which is condemnable,” he said.
“This is not a healthy tradition. This is not acceptable in a civilised society. People of Odisha won’t accept it. Onus lies on top BJP leaders how they would control their cadres at the ground. It’s the duty of the Opposition to ensure a healthy political atmosphere. Hope they would take the route of healthy dialogue and debate instead of resorting to egg attacks”, he added.
