BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab terms Triple Talaq Bill ‘flawed’

ONI Bureau:  The Triple Talaq Bill or the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017 was tabled in the Lok Sabha by the Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today.

Calling it a “historic day”, Ravi Shankar said this law is for women’s rights & justice & not regarding any prayer, ritual or religion. When Islamic countries have regulated this provisions then why can’t we a secular nation do it, the Minister questioned in Lok Sabha.

However, senior BJD leader Bhartruhari Mahtab has termed the bill as flawed. There have many internal contradictions in the Bill that need to redraft and the judgement of the Apex Court is what needs to be reflected in the bill, said the Odisha MP in Lok Sabha today.
