BJD to gherao Parliament on Jan 8 over MSP for Paddy Farmers

ONI Bureau:  The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to stage demonstration before the Parliament on January 8, 2019 to press their demand over hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy in Odisha.

The MLAs, MPs, Zilla Parishad members and party workers will leave for New Delhi on January 6 in a special train and will gherao the Parliament on January 8, demanding increase of the paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal for Odisha farmers and implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Committee recommendations.

This was informed by the senior BJD leaders Prasanna Acharya, Debi Prasad Mishra, Sanjay Dasburma and Pratap Jena at a press meet in Bhubaneswar today.

Worth mentioning, though the Central government hiked the MSP for paddy by a steep Rs 200 per quintal, BJD stated that as per the Swaminathan Committee MSP hike should have been increased by further Rs 300 per quintal.
