BJP alleges Odisha Govt suppressing Farmers Suicide Cases

Biswabhusan HarichandanBhubaneswar, Nov 12: Senior leader of Odisha BJP unit, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan alleged the state government of suppressing farmers’ suicide cases.

Harichandan demanded the state government to provide compensation of Rs.10 lakh each to the family members of the farmers those committed suicide following crop loss.

Talking to media persons here, the leader demanded the state government to write-off agriculture loans of the farmers as due to drought situation farmers in the state are distress condition, which leading to their suicide.

Harichandan also demanded an inquiry into the list of usurers those have advanced loans to farmers in the state.  He said the state government should carry out the renovation works to fix the defunct irrigation points, which would help irrigating the crop fields of farmers.

Notably, as per the state government reports, so far 48 farmers have ended life in the state due to crop loss and debt burden. However, the number would be higher if unofficial reports are being considered.
