The resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which put up an impressive performance in the first two phases of panchayat polls in Odisha, has done even better in the third phase by surging ahead to give a tough fight to ruling BJD.
Out of 175 Zilla Parishad Zones that went to polls today, the ruling BJD is leading in 80 seats, while BJP has almost caught up with them by leading in 71 seats. The Congress is struggling with a lead in 15 seats.
BJP is heading for a clean sweep in Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi and leading in Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Malkangiri. BJD is ahead in Angul, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Balangir, Koraput etc.
While, Independent candidates are leading in all 3 seats in Keonjhar districts.
Tough fight has been reported in many districts. Congress is doing well in Jharsuguda and Nuapada. BJP may open its account in Puri and Balasore today.
