BJP's Odisha Unit President KV Singhdeo hails Union BudgetBhubaneswar, Aug 29: Terming the recently passed Odisha Police Bill, 2015 as ‘draconian bill’, BJP State unit President Patnagarh MLA KV Singhdeo said that the party would challenge bill at court.

He said that the party would hold discussion with civil society over the bill passed by the ruling BJD government in the absence of opposition members in the assembly. Odisha government has ignored all suggestions and recommendations made by various committees while formulating the bill, he alleged.

BJD government did not adopt either of the two models – the Ribeiro Committee and the Sorabjee Committee as directed by the Supreme Court. National Human Rights Commission has also recommended these two models for the formulation of the police bill.

Singhdeo alleged that the Odisha government also ignored the provisions of Model Police Bill, 2006 passed by the Central Government following directives of Supreme Court.
