Bus falls off Bridge; 19 killed, 30 injured in Angul district

In a shocking incident, at least 19 persons were killed and over 30 critically injured when a private bus fell off 50 feet from a bridge near Puruna Manitri at Athmallick area in Angul district on Friday morning.

The bus named ‘Maharaja’ carrying around over 60 passengers was on the way to Athmallik from Boudh.

The deceased include four women and some school and college students.

The injured persons were rushed to Angul district headquarters hospital and other hospitals.

Later, the helicopter had been deployed to bring the critically injured persons to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the family members of each deceased.

Patnaik also directed for free treatment of those persons who have injured in the accident.
