private bus ownersAs the automatic fare mechanism came into effect in Odisha, which will be dependent on fuel price hike/cut, the first round of bus fare hike was effected yesterday. The bus fare hike was in the range of 4 to 8 paise per km across the board.

The ordinary bus fare has been hiked by 4 paise to 61 paise per km. Passenger bus fare will now cost 64 paise per km – hike of 4 paise. Fare for deluxe buses, has gone up by 6 paise from 80 paise to 86 paise per km. AC Deluxe buses will now charge Rs 1.07 instead of 99 paise – up by 8 paise.

As per the automatic fare mechanism, in case of Rs 2 hike in diesel prices, the bus fare will go up by 1 paisa for ordinary and passenger buses and 2 paise for deluxe and AC deluxe buses. The fares will go down by the same margin if there is a cut in diesel prices by Rs 2. As expected, the common passengers have resented the bus fare hike.
