Chief Minister flags off Biju Patnaik Mini-Marathon

Chief minister Sri Naveen Patnaik flagged off the 6.6 km Biju Patnaik mini-marathon (2015) from Biju Patnaik Park (Forest Park) which concluded at Kalinga Stadium today. Nearly 10,000 runners lined up for the 10th mini-marathon held in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning as a part of the Panchayati Raj Day celebrations which is celebrated on the birthday of former chief minister Biju Patnaik.

The marathon had eight events for male and female sprinters of different age groups with a total cash prize of Rs 2.81 lakh. About 1,800 persons participated in the competitive segment while 8,200 people ran in a mass rally organized on the occasion.

Later, in the valedictory function, Sports and youth affairs minister Sri Sudam Marndi said, “The response is really marvellous. The mini-marathon generates health awareness amongst all sections of people.” Sri Marndi distributed cheques and certificates to brilliant runners.

Bijay Kumar Biswal, Gopinath Seth and Amulya Kumar Mahalik bagged first, second and third prize in 60 plus age group (male) category. Latarani Das, Manjulata Dey and Sushama Nanda bagged first, second and third prize in 60 plus age group (female) category. Dipak Kumar Sahu, Manoranjan Mohanta and Madhusudan Panda bagged first, second and third prize in 50 to 60 age group (male) category. Swarnaprava Mohanty, Brajeswari Singh and Diptimayee Ray bagged first, second and third prize in 50 to 60 age group (female) category.

Arjun Tudu, Akshya Kumar Behera and Muna Buriuly bagged first, second and third prize in 18 plus age group (male) category. Sukumati Laguri, Sobha Nayak, Tabassum Ara Begum bagged first, second and third prize in 18 plus age group (female) category. Samsad Ara Begum, Suchitra Tirkey and Damayanti Tiria bagged first, second and third prize in 15 to 18 age group (female) category whereas Roshan Minz, Debendra Nath and Amit Murmu bagged first, second and third prize in 15 to18 age group (female) category. Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Sri Saswat Mishra and sports officials were present.
