Congress Leader Pradeep Majhi granted bail

Pradeep MajhiFormer Nabarangpur MP and Congress leader Pradip Majhi along with his party members were granted conditional bail today by a local court.

The Congress members will be freed after furnishing a bond of Rs 20,000 and a surety each.

Majhi and his associates were sent to jail in connection with the charges of ransacking Raighar Forest Range office and assaulting the Ranger during a demonstration on June 25.

They had a demonstrated demanding immediate allotment of forest land pattas to tribals of Raighar under Forest Rights Act and ration cards to induct new BPL families under National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Notably, Majhi has been on a hunger strike inside the jail since last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has called for a day-long bandh in KBK districts on July 2 demanding proper implementation of Forest Rights Act (FRA) and protesting against the anti-tribal activities of Odisha government.
