Congress to announce candidates for Assembly Polls by August: OPCC President

In a bid to intensify their political battle for the 2019 general elections, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik on Saturday said names of at least 50 candidates for the next Assembly polls will be announced by August this year.

“We will announce the names of at least 50 candidates for the next Assembly polls by August this year,” Patnaik said while talking to media persons here.

“I am hopeful that people will support us to govern the State this time after 19 years of bad governance”, he added.

The announcement came a day after AICC President Rahul Gandhi appointed VD Satheesan as Chairman of the screening committee for Odisha.

The screening committee will select the candidates in consultation with the OPCC for both Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
