Crop loss leads farmer to take his life

A farmer at Rajnagar area in Kendrapara district allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide today.

Identified as Rama Chandra Barik of Nuru village under Rajnagar Block, it is believed that Barik was at a distressed state as the paddy of 4-acre land that he had cultivated this year was completely damaged by cyclone Bulbul.

Left with no choice to deal with crop loss and clear his debts, he took the drastic by consuming pesticide today morning.

Barik in a critical condition was rushed to a nearby hospital by the locals but was declared brought dead by the doctor.
