Crop Loss: One more Farmer ends life in Bolangir

Drought-OdishaBhubaneswar, Dec 30: One more distressed farmer reportedly committed suicide on Wednesday morning in Bolangir district due to crop loss and debt burden.

As per reports, the deceased identified as Srikant Selema of Aenlapalli villae in Punitala block in Bolangir district.   Selema drank pesticide on Tuesday night, he was admitted district headquarters hospitals last night in serious condition. He breathed his last on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.

His family members claimed that Selema had taken loan sum of Rs.35,000 for agriculture purposes. Crop loss due to drought shattered all his hopes and forced him to take such extreme step, they added. Many farmers in the state ended their lives following crop loss and debt burden despite announcement of special drought package by the state government.
