Cyclone Amphan Damage Assessment to be done by five-member union team

As per the preliminary damage assessment report released by the state government, over 44 lakh people in four districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur — have been affected due to cyclone ‘Amphan’. To assess the situation better, a five-member of the central team arrived in Odisha evening to evaluate the damage caused by cyclone on May 20.

Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Prakash heading the inter-ministerial team will visit cyclone-affected districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur in separate groups. The unit will hold a conference with senior state government administrators before returning to Delhi. After concluding the visit, the team will present its report to the Centre, an executive said.

On May 21, Odisha received Rs 500 crore from the Centre as advance assistance for restoration work after PM Narendra Modi conducted an aerial review of the cyclone-hit regions in the state along with CM Naveen Patnaik.
