Cyclone Daye: Flood-like situation in Malkangiri, CM announces 7-Day Relief

ONI Bureau:  Heavy rains in the last 24 hours, have caused widespread destruction in several parts of southern and coastal districts in Odisha.

Malkangiri district has been worst affected by the cyclonic storm ‘Daye’ as water flows above the road at different places.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced relief for 7 days for people in flood-affected areas of Malkangiri districts. While two villages & colonies affected, landslide occurred in Chitrakonda area.

The CM announced relief for adults at Rs 60 per day whereas children below 12 years to receive relief at Rs 45 per day. State Government also directed district administration to reach out to the affected people & extend all necessary assistance to them.

As per report, eight rivers of Malkangiri district in spate, road communication between Malkangiri and Chhattisgarh disrupted following incessant rain in the region.

Except Malkangiri, the situation is normal in all other districts. The water level in all major rivers is below the danger level, Bishnu Pada Sethi, Special Relief Commissioner said.
