Cyclone ‘Fani’ To Impact Odisha Massively

The tropical Cyclone, ‘Fani’ termed as ‘Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm’ lays centered around 430 km South-Southwest of Puri and is likely to cause extensive damage.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its recent bulletin has warned of Tidal waves to rise above 1.5-metres in height following the landfall of the storm. The height of the water level rises due to the storm surge. A warning has been issued for low lying areas of four districts in Odisha including Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur.
The IMD has advised people in the low lying areas to evacuate the space immediately as the area is likely to be inundated in water. Fishermen have been also asked not to venture out for fishing from May 1 to May 5.
The IMD has also issued a wind warning for the state. The intensity of the cyclone will be 170-180 km per hour gusting to 200 kmph at the time of landfall.

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ will make landfall in Puri at 5:30 pm on May 3, as per the forecast of IMD.
