Cyclone Komen to trigger Heavy Rainfall in Odisha till August 1

Rains-BBSRA deep depression over northeast Bay of Bengal, has intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Komen’, which may trigger heavy rainfalls in Odisha and West Bengal till August 1. Cyclone Komen is now centred at about 95km southwest of Chittagong in Bangladesh and about 300 km southeast of Kolkata.

The cyclone will move northwards and cross the Bangladesh coast by this afternoon, as per the Met department. However, it will weaken following the landfall and move northwestwards.

Wind speed of 50-70 km per hour is expected in North Odisha. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along with West Bengal and Odisha coasts. The state government has sounded alert across the coastal areas of North Odisha. The District Collectors have been asked to stay prepared to face any situation.
