ONI Bureau: Cyclonic storm ‘DAYE’ crossed Odisha coast near Gopalpur in Odisha early Friday, triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by high velocity wind in several parts of southern and coastal districts.
The cyclonic storm “DAYE” over northwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 23 kmph and crossed south Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coast close to Gopalpur during 12.30 AM to 01.30 AM and lay centred over south Odisha, about 150 km east-southeast of Bhawanipatna, informed Special Relief Commissioner today.
The State Government cancelled Muharram holiday of employees for today in 5 districts – Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda, in view of heavy cyclonic rain.
All officials of the districts were directed to remain present in office and assist in relief and rescue operations, if needed.
Under the impact of cyclonic storm, heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely to lash in several parts of Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts till Saturday morning.
