Daruthenga remains tense; Villagers clash with Cops

daruthengaDaruthenga village on the outskirts of the State Capital Bhubaneswar continued to remain tense, as hundreds of villagers protested against the dumping of garbage for the second day.

The locals pelted stones at policemen and opposed the dumping of garbage by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) near the area which is proposed for energy project.

The cops had to fire tear gas shells and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob. The dumping work was under progress amid tight security in the presence of BMC commissioner, Bhubaneswar DCP and BMC officials.

Notably the situation became very tense on Thursday, when the villagers clashed with police and were angry over the garbage dumping issue in the area.

To bring the situation under control, the administration has deployed as many as 18 platoons of police forces.

As per the information given by the officials, the dumping yard would be relocated within a month while the proposed waste to energy (waste treatment) plant would be set up in Bhuasuni after the compliance given by the directives of Orissa High Court.
