Data Entry Operators stage protest demanding regularisation of Jobs

ONI Bureau: Demanding regularisation of their jobs, hundreds of data entry operators (DEOs) staged demonstration in front of the State Assembly on Wednesday.

Members under the aegis of Odisha State Tehsil Data Entry Operator Association resorted to cease work strike and threatened to continue their demonstration till their demands are not met.

It is to be noted that as many as 600 data entry operators were recruited by the state government in 2007 on a contractual basis. Though there is a provision for making the contractual employees permanent after 6 years of service, till now they are working on contractual basis. According to the Association, unable to bear the trauma, at least two employees have committed suicide in the last couple of years.

The members of the Association have been pursuing this matter for the last 4 years, but in vain. They reportedly met Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra and Rajya Sabha MP Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, but no assurance was given.

The Odisha State Tehsil Data Entry Operator Association President Nrusingha Charan Nayak has appealed the media and all others to support their cause and raise voice against the injustice meted out to them.
