Dengue strikes in Odisha

In the first case of death due to dengue in Odisha this year, a woman succumbed to the mosquito borne disease at a private-run hospital in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Pratima Das, a resident of Chandrasekharpur area in the city. She was admitted to the hospital two days back along with her sister-in-law who has also tested positive for dengue.

More importantly, State Directorate of Health Services said the disease has assumed alarming proportions in Odisha.

Health Director Braja Kishore Brahma, while speaking to media persons today, said, “as many as 20,000 sample tests were conducted across the state of which 48 have been tested positive till Wednesday whereas 10,000 samples tests were conducted last year of which 45 were tested positive”.

“The highest number of dengue patients has been reported from Khurda district where eight persons have been tested positive”, he added.
