Dutee Chand brings laurels to Odisha at National Games

imageDutee Chand, who returned to the track after a traumatic experience last year, which denied her participation at the Incheon Asian Games, brought glory to Odisha by winning a Gold medal in Women’s 100m at the 35th National Games in Kollam, Kerala.

Dutee won the gold medal with a timing of 11.76 seconds while Santhini Vallikkad of Kerala won the silver with 11.84 seconds. Rashmi Sheregar of Maharashtra won the bronze medal by clocking 11.87 seconds. Dutee has a personal best of 10.63 seconds.

Amiya Kumar Mallick won a silver in the men’s 100m. Amiya clocked 10.64 seconds. Dharmbir of Haryana won the gold medal with 10.46 seconds, while Krishna Kumar Rana of Maharashtra won the bronze with 10.65 seconds.

However, Odisha Men’s hockey team suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Services in the final. They lost the match 8-2 to settle for a silver medal. In the Women’s section, Jharkhand beat Odisha 2-0 to win the bronze.
