Farmers’ Suicide in Odisha: Congress demonstrates at Blocks Offices

Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee members today started their agitation at block offices in the state over the issue of farmers’ suicide in the state. The Congress leaders alleged the state government of failing serious issues of farmers’ suicide in Odisha.

The party has initiated ‘Chasi Banchao Andolan’ to highlight the failure of the state government and under this the party members will highlight farmers suicide issue. As a part of demonstration, the party workers would ghearo all block offices today.

They demanded the state government to increase the minimum support price of paddy procurement in the state. However, the central government on Thursday increased the MSP.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appealed BJD party members to support distress farmers in their respective regions to check farmers’ suicides in the state. Notably, the Odisha government reports confirm death of 48 farmers in the state due to crop loss and drought.
