Farmers vow to intensify stir across Odisha

ONI Bureau:  Agitating farmers today defied prohibitory orders (Section 144) at Tamando and entered into the Capital City to attend their mega convention in Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar demanding price, prestige and pension.

Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik, Former parliamentarian Baijayant Jay Panda, BJP State chief Basant Panda condemned Odisha govt’s attempt to prevent farmers from entering Bhubaneswar.

However, Odisha Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera said that the State government today constituted an inter-ministerial committee to look into the demands of farmers. The Minister requested farmers to come forward for a discussion with the State government.

As per report, Police have taken numbers of farmers into preventive custody while they were trying to break cordon near Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar.

Worth mentioning, the members of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) demand a security allowance of Rs 5000 per month for all the 36 lakh farmers. Members of NNKS has launched its eight-day-long ‘Jan Satyagraha Padayatra’ from October 29.

The farmers will intensify their stir across the state, if the government doesn’t listen to their demands, National Co-ordinator Akshay Kumar informed to news men today.
