Five more Farmers end lives in Odisha

farmers-suicideBhubaneswar, Nov 6: Five more farmers have ended their lives in the state following crop loss and debt burden on Thursday. Farmers in the state have been taking such extreme step despite the state government’s declaration of special drought package and other measures.

In five separate incidents – farmers of five districts – Nuapada, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput and Cuttack – have committed suicide on Thursday.

Lakhan Goud of Thakurpali village in Nuapada block; Rabindra Mahali of Ostar village in Kendrapara district, Rabindra Muduli of Bariamula village in Jagatsinghpur district, Chandra Kaudia of Ektaguda village in Koraput district and Bhagban Sahu of Choudwar in Cuttack district – have committed suicide.

They have ended their lives following crop loss due to drought situation in the state. They had taken loans for agriculture purpose and crop loss faded their hopes to repay the loan.
