Flood situation in Odisha: Hirakud Sluice Gates Opened; 9 Dead in Rain-Related Incidents

As Odisha faces flood situation, 40 of the 64 sluice gates of Hirakud dam were opened to release exess water. Incessant rains due to low pressure has resulted in rise of water level in river Mahanadi.

Till 6pm on Friday, the reservoir level stood at 625.58 feet. The Hirakud dam registered an inflow of 6,57,921 cusec of water while the outflow was 6, 19, 802 cusec.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall in the upper catchment of Mahanadi River in Chhattisgarh, has triggered fear of medium to high level flood , State Water Resources Engineer-in-Chief Jyotirmaya Rath has said.

Meanwhile, death toll in rain-related incidents in the state reached nine, without two more deaths on Friday.

NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Services teams are on alert.
