Former Minister Rabi Nanda fined Rs 10,000 by Orissa HC

Rabi-NandaBJD Spokesperson and former School & Mass Education Minister, Rabi Narayan Nanda, has been fined Rs 10,000 for submitting wrong information in his affidavit. The Orissa High Court took strong exception to Rabi Nanda’s tactics, which wasted the court’s time.

Rabi Nanda had sought more time from the Orissa HC, saying he had been advised one-month bed rest by his Doctor on medical grounds. He also claimed that he was suffering from lungs complications. However, his opponent and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, informed the court that Rabi Nanda collected the medical report from a Gynaecologist.

The court was also informed that Rabi Nanda was seen at various meetings and programmes, including that of the Chief Minister during that period. The court had earlier served a notice to him on February 21, seeking a reply on the issue of “forged” documents.

This is the second time Rabi Narayan Nanda has been fined by the High Court. He was fined Rs 5,000 on November 17, 2014, after he failed to revision petition related to the Jeypore Assembly elections, on time.
