The Forest department officials have finally rescued four elephants, including two females and a calf from a dry dug well near Sanasola forest under Dukura forest range after making hard efforts for over 19 hours. The local villagers assisted in the rescue operations.
A JCB earthmoving machine was used to widen the ditch so that the elephants can move out without much trouble. The pachyderms hailed from Similipal Sanctuary, but strayed into Sanasola village in search of food.
After the rescue operation was over, the elephants were allowed to return to Similipal forest.
