First Swine Flu Death reported in Odisha

H1N1-Swine-FluOdisha reported the first Swine Flu death this season, as Aditya Narayan Jena, a resident of Mukundprasad in Khurda district died of H1N1 at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack today. Aditya was being treated for the last few days.

The patient was confirmed a swine flu case, following his blood tests at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Bhubaneswar. He had some diabetic problems, it has been reported.

The deceased, who was the cousin of Bhubaneswar mayor Anant Narayan Jena – was being treated at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and was Sunday shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

It was the fourth Swine Flu case in Odisha this year, but there were no casualties earlier.

All district hospitals and medical colleges in the state have been alerted and the government is taking every possible step to prevent the spread of the disease. The health department has, meanwhile, dismissed 52 medical officers for taking unauthorised leave.

According to a health official, the sanctioned strength of doctors in government hospitals in the state is 4,236, but only 3,194 doctors are working. (With inputs from IANS)
