Highway Liquor Shops across Odisha to be shifted by Mar 31

As per the Supreme Court order, Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi on Friday directed district Collectors and field officials of Excise Department to shift liquor shops within 500 metres from the National and State Highways by March 31.

Reportedly, as many as 1,712 shops have been identified which are operating in 500 metres distance from the highways.

Notably, the Apex Court headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur ordered removal of all signboards of alcohol vends along highways. The move aimed at reducing drink driving and road accidents that claim thousands of lives every year.
