Hirakud Dam releases Season’s first Rain Water today

Hirakud Dam has released season’s first rain water today as the water level has increased in its reservoir due to incessant rains in the upper reaches of Mahanadi.

As many as 10 sluice gates will be opened to release the excess water between 10 am to 12.30 pm today.

According to official sources, Collectors of Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Angul, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Khordha, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri have been asked to remain on alert.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department PK Jena has assured that there is no sign of flood due to the release of water from Hirakud.

However, Jena has advised the people to be on alert who are living on the banks of the river and its distributaries.
