Hirakud Dam spillway work to begin from Oct 24

ONI Bureau:  Work on the additional spillway in Hirakud dam will begin from October 24 and be completed in nine months, official source said.

The additional spillway is a World Bank funded project and will be constructed with an estimated budget of Rs 369.53 crore, reportedly. Source said that the experts from IITs have reviewed the condition of Hirakud dam.

The present water discharge capacity of the Hirakud dam is 15 lakh cusecs through its 64 sluice gates and 34 crest gates. With the construction of the proposed additional spillway, the water discharge capacity will increase to 18 lakh cusec.
