Hospitals get Notice over Odisha Couple’s Suicide in New Delhi

Odisha-Couple-SuicideNew Delhi, Sep 12: A young couple, whose seven-year-old son died of dengue, have committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of a building here. The parents, hailing from Odisha, have left a suicide note written in Odia that nobody was responsible for their act and they were in extreme shock over their son’s death.

Although they left a suicide note, saying nobody was responsible for their suicide and they are taking the extreme step because of their son’s death, it came to light that their son Avinash died of suspected dengue on September 8 after allegedly being denied admission at two prominent private hospitals on the previous day.

After the Union Health Ministry intervened, ordered a probe and asked the Delhi government to submit a reporrt, show cause notices have been issued to Max hospital in Saket, Moolchand Khairatiram Hospital in Lajpat Nagar, Saket City Hospital, Irene Hospital, Kalkaji and Aakash Hospital in Malviya Nagar to reply why their registration won’t be cancelled for not admitting the boy.

Police said the couple — identified as Laxman Chandra Raut, 35, and Babita Raut, 30 — jumped from their rented accommodation in Lado Sarai area of south Delhi on Wednesday around 12.15 AM.

Avinash died of dengue during his treatment in a private hospital on Tuesday. Police said Avinash was admitted in the hospital on September 4 after he was diagnosed with the symptoms of dengue.
