House Committee formed to probe charges against Abhijit Iyer-Mitra

ONI Bureau: Speaker of Odisha Assembly, Pradip Amat has constituted a six-member House Committee to probe charges against Abhijit Iyer-Mitra for his alleged remarks against the MLAs, Journalists and Odia culture.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra (Congress) will head the committee, which would also have KV Singhdeo (BJP), Arun Sahoo (BJD), Sanjay Dasburma (BJD), Debi Prasad Mishra (BJD) and Pramila Mallick (BJD) as Members.

The committee would investigate Abhijit’s remarks and the circumstances under which he made those before submitting a report to the Speaker on the first day of next Assembly session. The assembly session comes to and end today.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Assembly passed a privilege motion condemning Abhjit Iyer-Mitra’s remarks against the MLAs. Leaders cutting across party lines slammed him and sought strong action against him. The Working Journalists too met the CM, Assembly Speaker and Leader of Opposition, seeking action against Abhijit for his ‘tirade’ against the Odia Journalists.
